By Gautam Deorukhkar | Content Operations at JioSaavn

What Is Content Ingestion?

Content ingestion is the process of processing information, scanning and importing files. Our expertise and resources allow high speed uploading of our audio files.

Music content is normally ingested on our platform in two forms:

  • Digital Data Exchange (DDEX) which is commonly used by major media partners
  • Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), it requires a manual uploading of content, hence it is only used by content providers who have a small catalogue. This is similar to an online transfer link, but faster and more secure.

Podcast content is normally ingested on our platform in two forms:

  • Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed, which is commonly used by major media partners in podcast space.
  • Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), it requires a manual uploading of content, hence it is only used by content providers who have a small catalogue. This is similar to an online transfer link, but faster and more secure.

Required assets?

Artwork

Music artwork are images, directly related to an artist or an album, preferably of high quality, that are displayed when viewing the album or artist entry in the library. They may also be used as visualisations while playing music.

It’s a content thumbnail which is absolutely essential for any content to go live. No file can be uploaded without a specific artwork. Some preferable dimensions are –

  • Album Artwork – Dimension: High resolution 1400x1400px, 300 dpi.
  • Format – .jpg
  • Artwork should be named as per the “ALBUM ID”.  For example:  Album ID.jpg
  • Artist Image Dimension: High resolution 1500x1500px, 300 dpi.
Audio Files

An audio file format is a file format for storing digital audio data on a computer system. The bit layout of the audio data (excluding metadata) is called the audio coding format and can be uncompressed, or compressed to reduce the file size, often using lossy compression.

  • Audio files deliverable should be 24 bit/44.1kHZ stereo wav file or Lossless formats.
  • Audio files should be renamed as per the “ALBUM ID”. For example:  Album ID-Track Number “ABC123-01.wav”
  • Audio Files to be shared in two ways:
    • SFTP (Access will be provided by JioSaavn).
    • DDEX (Digital Data Exchange). This involved Tech Supports.
What Is Metadata?

Metadata is the information embedded in a digital file that tells you something about the song, everything from the artist and title to the composer, the record label, the year of release–there are a whole host of fields that should be filled in.

There are two types of metadata:

  • Basic Metadata- As the name goes, Basic metadata has the basic information about the music, like the artist name, title to the composer, the record label, the year of release etc…
  • Rich Metadata- Has information which is more detailed- like what instrument has been used, which hour of the day the music can be played, what Raaga is used, which festival this song can be played and so on.

However, you can list your existing podcast, on JioSaavn by submitting your RSS Feed link, using JioSaavn YourCast. In case you do not have an RSS link, you will need to use a hosting provider/podcast aggregator to create an RSS Feed first.
